Esta pesquisa configura um estudo de caso sobre percepção da paisagem. O escopo central foi investigar os níveis de identificação dos pecuaristas familiares das Guaritas do Camaquã com as tradições e com as transformações que estão ocorrendo nas paisagens tradicionais do pampa sul-rio-grandense. Para alcançar os objetivos, a pesquisa utilizou o procedimento metodológico foto-teste, seguido de entrevista; o foto-teste lança mão de fotografias que representam diferentes cenas das paisagens pampeanas. Estas paisagens foram organizadas em distintas categorias de preferência. De maneira geral, os dados produzidos pela pesquisa evidenciam o alto grau de identificação da população envolvida com as categorias de preferência “pampa serrano”, “criação e manejo” e “estradas de chão”. Por outro lado, as categorias “silvicultura” e “urbanidades” foram algumas das categorias de preferência que receberam as menores notas pela população de pecuaristas. Salientam-se também diferenças significativas entre as avaliações realizadas por pessoas do gênero masculino e feminino.

The following research is a case study on landscape perception. The central scope was to investigate the levels of identification of the ranchers of the Guaritas do Camaquã area with the traditions and transformations that are taking place in the traditional landscapes of southern Brazilian pampean grasslands. In order to reach its goals, this research used the methodological procedure “photo-test”, followed by interview; the photo-test relies on the evaluation of photographs representing scenes from different landscapes. These landscapes were organized into different categories of preference. In general, the data produced by the research evidence the high degree of identification of the population involved with the preference categories “hilly grasslands”, “cattle breeding and management” and “unpaved roads”. On the other hand, the categories “forestry” and “urban life” were some of the categories that received the lowest grades by the population of ranchers. There are also significant differences between the evaluations performed by men and women.
