A reestruturação do espaço urbano que se observa em Juazeiro do Norte, no Cariri, sul do estado do Ceará, apresenta fatores importantes para a explicação das transformações urbanas em cidades médias brasileiras e cearenses em particular. Tal cidade passa atualmente por grandes transformações na estrutura intra-urbana, recebendo incentivos públicos e privados e provocando, com efeito, uma reestruturação do espaço urbano/regional caririense. MEDIUM-SIZED CITIES IN THE CEARÁ STATE AND RESTRUCTURING OF URBAN SPACE: SOME CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT JUAZEIRO DO NORTE Abstract The current work analyses theoretical matters concerning the restructuring of urban space in contemporary cities, especially in the medium cities that had significant changes in structure and functionality urban. The city of Juazeiro do Norte, in Cariri, South of the Ceara State, has important factors to the explanation of urban transformations in Brazilian medium cities and Cearenses in special. Nowadays, this city passes for big transformations in the intra-urban structure, receiving public and private incentives and causing, with effect, a restructuring regional Caririense space.
