Abstract: This paper discusses the rôle of tourism in an underdeveloped region in Brazil – Northeast, based mainly on studies about ‘touristification’s process’ in some places situated on Pernambuco state. Firstly, it aims to clarifying the tourism as a strategic mechanism fixed in geographic spaces in order to promote and keep foreign interests instead of local interests, as well as a ‘fable’ in order to hide its real proposals. Secondly, it shows that the social-spacial development is not possible under this logic of tourism process. Finally, it presents some challenges for the social-spacial development in those kinds of space. Keywords: Tourism, Social-Spacial Development, Underdeveloped Places.
