RESUMO:Desde a Antiguidade, inúmeras teorias foram elaboradas para explicar a morfologia do universo. Vários autores apontam que há uma continuidade nas cosmologias desde Aristóteles até Copérnico. A substituição do referencial geocêntrico de Ptolomeu pelo referencial heliocêntrico de Copérnico percorreu um caminho linear no Século das Luzes, provocando o abandono do geocentrismo pela ciência moderna. O objetivo do presente artigo é evidenciar a importância do referencial geocêntrico, ao abordar temas que envolvem a relação Terra/céu, e como conciliar as visões ptolomaica e copernicana no ensino de Geografia. Trata-se de dois modelos de linguagem que se referem a uma mesma realidade. A revolução copernicana legitimou o heliocentrismo, mas é preciso compreender que o sistema ptolomaico está relacionado à percepção sensorial do mundo observado pelo aluno. Torna-se necessário validar o referencial geocêntrico para associá-lo ao heliocêntrico, no ensino de Geografia.Palavras-chave: geocentrismo; heliocentrismo; modernidade; ensino de geografia. ABSTRACT:Since the classical antiquity, numerous theories have been elaborated to explain the morphology of the universe. Several authors point out that there is a continuity in cosmologies from Aristotle to Copernicus. The substitution of Ptolemy's geocentric reference for Copernicus's heliocentric reference has taken a linear path in the Century of Lights, leading to the abandonment of geocentrism by modern science. The purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of the geocentric reference, when addressing issues involving the relationship Earth/Sky, and how to reconcile the Ptolemaic and Copernican views in the teaching of Geography. These are two models of language that refer to the same reality. The Copernican revolution legitimized heliocentrism, but we must understand that the Ptolemaic system is related to the sensory perception of the world observed by the student. It becomes necessary to validate the geocentric reference to associate it with the heliocentric, in the teaching of Geography.Keywords: geocentrism; heliocentrism; modernity; geography teaching.
