RESUMO:O objetivo deste artigo consiste na análise dos elementos centrais que influenciaram a constituição do Movimento das Catadoras de Mangaba de Sergipe (MCM), bem como suas finalidades, além da discussão das principais conquistas e avanços referente às catadoras de mangaba. O Movimento das Catadoras de Mangaba de Sergipe (MCM) foi criado em 2007 diante da necessidade de defesa do extrativismo da mangaba no litoral. A finalidade de organização desse segmento de comunidade tradicional foi pautada em virtude da diminuição dos ecossistemas em que as catadoras de mangaba se utilizam para o desenvolvimento de suas práticas extrativistas. Posterior a formação do MCM, foi dado enfoque ao autorreconhecimento enquanto catadora de mangaba. Outro destaque também se deve a auto-organização deste movimento social que consiste na luta pela permanência das áreas remanescentes de mangabeiras, ambientes estes considerados pelas extrativistas da mangaba como fonte de renda e reprodução de conhecimentos singulares fruto da interdependência com o meio ambiente. Para o desenvolvimento deste artigo teve-se como base pesquisas bibliográficas por intermédio de documentos primários e secundários que retratam a fundação e as concepções do Movimento das Catadoras de Mangaba de Sergipe.Palavras-chave: auto-organização; catadoras de mangaba; autorreconhecimento. ABSTRACT:The objective of this article is to analyse the contextualisation of the central elements that influenced the constitution of the Mangaba Collection of Sergipe (MCM), as well as its purposes, besides the discussion of the main achievements related to the mangaba pickers. The Mangaba Collection of Sergipe (MCM) it was created in 2007 on the need to defend the extraction of mangaba on the coast. The organizational purpose of this traditional community segment was determined by the reduction of the ecosystems in which the mangaba collectors are used for the development of their extractive practices. After the MCM training, self-recognition as a mango picker was highlighted. Another highlight is the self-organization of this social movement, which consists in the struggle for the remaining areas of mangabeiras, which are considered by extractors of mangaba as source of income and reproduction of unique knowledge due to the interdependence with the environment. For the development of this work was based on bibliographical research through primary and secondary documents that depict the foundation and the conceptions of the Mangaba Collection of Sergipe.Keywords: self-organization; collectors of mangaba; self-recognition.
