A cidade e a região exprimem dimensões de análises geográficas que são foco de estudos que procuram avaliar suas relações e aprofundar o debate no que se refere à organização da sociedade contemporânea. Assim, busca-se neste trabalho avaliar como processam-se as relações entre essas duas realidades em uma área específica do interior do Estado de São Paulo, a chamada região de Araraquara. Tendo como pressuposto de que o estudo da cidade deve evidenciar processos internos e externos, que definem as escalas intraurbana e interurbana,vislumbra-se medir as relações espaciais que se estabelecem com os espaços mais próximos e com os mais distantes. O mercado regional e a teia de relações com espaços urbanos de maior importância e outros de mesma importância, serão objetos aqui privilegiados, caracterizando a cidade de Araraquara segundo o consumo de bens e serviços em duas dimensões: a área, definindo a proximidade e continuidade territorial, e a rede, definindo a descontinuidade territorial.

ABSTRACT
The city and the region express dimensions of Geography analysis that are the focus of studies which seek to evaluate their relationship and to deepen the discussion regarding the organization of contemporary society. Thus, this article aims to evaluate how to process the relations between these two realities in a specific area of the State of São Paulo, the region of Araraquara. Taking into account that the study of the city must disclose internal and external forces that define the scale intra-urban and intercity, this paper intends to measure the spatial relationships that are established with the spaces closest and those most distant. The regional market and the network of relations with urban areas of major importance and others of equal value are approached here, featuring the city of Araraquara according to the consumption of goods and services in two dimensions: the area to define the proximity and territorial continuity and the network, to define the discontinuity territorial.
