A relação cidade-campo, estudada sob o enfoque da transferência de capitais e de iniciativas entre os setores rural e urbano, é apresentada em uma breve análise geohistórica a partir do ciclo cafeeiro, em que tal relação é amplamente percebida. É, sem dúvida, nesse período que ocorrem os mais expressivos exemplos da transferência de capital entre o campo e a cidade, influenciando o desenvolvimento urbano e industrial de numerosos municípios e modificando as estruturas social, política e econômica paulista e brasileira.

Abstract

Urban-rural relations, studied in the light of capital tranference and initiatives between the agricultural and urban sectors, are presented in a brief historical-geographical analysis of the coffee cycle, when such relations can be clearly perceived. Undoubtedly, expressive capital transferences between the field and the city occurred during that period, influencing the urban and industrial developedment of several cities and modifying the social, political and economic framework of São Paulo State and, consequently, of the whole country.
